ECONOMIC INDICATORS
ifo Business Climate Index Edges Downwards
Sentiment among German firms weakened slightly this month. The ifo Business Climate Index declined to 103.7 points in September from 103.9 points in August. Firms’ assessments of their current business situation deteriorated marginally, but remain at a high level. Companies also scaled back their business expectations somewhat. Despite growing uncertainty, the German economy remains robust.

Munich Lectures in Economics
The annual special event at CES, the Munich Lecture in Economics, will take place on 13 November 2018 in the Grosse Aula of LMU. This year the Scientific Advisory Council has nominated Torsten Persson to give the Munich Lecture in Economics. The laudation will be delivered by Guido Tabellini. The lecture will be livestreamed via the internet. Find out more about this special event.

Clemens Fuest Appointed President of IIPF
This year’s annual meeting of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF) took place in Tampere, Finland, from 21-23 August 2018. During the congress ifo President Clemens Fuest took over as the new President of IIPF. A detailed report on the congress is available at the IIPF website.

Job Opportunity: Post-Doctoral Research at CUBE, Lisbon
CUBE, the Research Unit of the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics at the Catholic University of Portugal, is awarding one Post-Doctoral Research Contract in Management Information Systems, for the DIGICREATE project “PTDC/EGE-OGE/27968/2017” funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. The Economics of Migration: Perspectives on Family, Gender, and Fertility
The FRIAS Junior Researcher Conference will take place on 11-13 April 2019 at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. The conference addresses gender differences in migration decisions and their implications for origin and destination countries, as well as the role of gender in family migration. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Delia Furtado (University of Connecticut). The conference will offer networking opportunities, as well as a forum for discussing current research, new perspectives and potential research collaborations.
