Rüdiger Bachmann, CESifo guest
in June 2013

Rüdiger Bachmann

The macroeconomics of heterogeneous agents is Rüdiger Bachmann’s speciality. His focus is on the implications of uncertainty and expectation formation on macroeconomics outcomes.

During his stay at the Ifo Institute he will continue work on various projects with members of the Ifo research community, such as 1) the measurement of subjective uncertainty and ambiguity on the part of decision-makers in firms, 2) the determinants of investment and the behaviour of various firm-level investment components over the business cycle and 3) the behaviour of firm-level shocks to investment over the business cycle. These projects rely heavily on the micro data of the Ifo Business Survey and the Ifo Investment Survey.

Rüdiger Bachmann holds the Chair of Economics at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He is also a Faculty Research Fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a CESifo Research Network Affiliate and an external research professor at the Ifo Institute. Professor Bachmann received undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy from Mainz University, Germany, and a PhD from Yale University in 2007. He was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Michigan until 2011. Professor Bachmann also serves as an associate editor for The Economic Journal.
