Bite at your peril

Bitten by the Apple
Just as an apple led Eva to sin, the modern-day one appears to have led a group of publishers down an unholy path, at least according to a first ruling regarding e-book pricing a few weeks ago. Hans Jarle Kind and his colleagues have released a very timely CESifo Working Paper that explains why Apple chose a particular business model for its foray into the e-book market. The logic of the business model appears counterintuitive at first, but boy, did it pay out.

Two Views on the Euro Crisis

Two thinkers arrive at two nearly identical diagnoses for the Eurozone's current malaise. Except for one crucial aspect, which leads Niall Ferguson and Hans-Werner Sinn to come to very different prescriptions for a cure. According to Ferguson, the right medicine would be Eurobonds. According to Sinn, that would kill the patient. Find out why.

Offshore Bank Loans as Percentage of GDP

Cyprus was brought down by it, Ireland was rocked by it, Iceland was pummeled by it: a large share of GDP in the form offshore bank loans can be a perilous thing. And these countries are but pygmies compared to the champion in the offshore bank loan league. Check out this DICE interactive chart to see which country leads the pack.
