Just as an apple led Eva to sin, the modern-day one appears to have led a group of publishers down an unholy path, at least according to a first ruling regarding e-book pricing a few weeks ago. Hans Jarle Kind and his colleagues have released a very timely CESifo Working Paper that explains why Apple chose a particular business model for its foray into the e-book market. The logic of the business model appears counterintuitive at first, but boy, did it pay out.
