In den vergangenen Jahren ist es zu einem deutlichen Anstieg des populistischen Wahlverhaltens gekommen. Brexit, die Wahl Donald Trumps zum US-Präsidenten und das erfolgreiche Abschneiden rechtspopulistischer Parteien in Mitteleuropa und linkspopulistischer Parteien in Südeuropa sind Beispiele der sich verändernden politischen Landschaft. Der Anstieg populistischen Wahlverhaltens in vielen westlichen Ländern hängt mit einer Vielzahl von Herausforderungen wie der Eurokrise, der Flüchtlingskrise oder den wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen der Globalisierung zusammen. Die im Forum des ifo DICE Reports 4/2017 veröffentlichten Artikel erklären die Zusammenhänge, die zum Anstieg des populistischen Wahlverhaltens geführt haben.
