Long-term construction demand in Germany - recovery in residential construction but reduced public-sector construction spending

Construction volume in Germany will grow, on average and in real terms, by about a half a percent annually up to 2019. This is the conclusion of the recent Ifo Construction Forecast. In the individual construction sectors, developments will differ markedly. In home building, construction output will increase by about one percent per annum, on average, in the coming ten years, whereas public-sector construction spending will decline by nearly half a percent per year. In the commercial construction sector, average growth rates up to 2019 should lie only slightly in positive territory.
