Publication Series

ifo World Economic Survey was a quarterly publication in English containing the results of the ifo expert poll on the world economy.

The ifo World Economic Survey (WES) was designed to give an accurate picture of the economic situation and forecasts for important industrial, emerging and developing economies on a quarterly basis. The results were published in the journal ifo World Economic Survey.

In the ifo Viewpoints, ifo President Clemens Fuest comments on current economic policy issues. The ifo Viewpoints are published as guest contributions in various leading media outlets.

Survey Series

The ifo Business Climate in Eastern Germany is based on ca. 1,200 monthly survey responses of firms in manufacturing, construction, wholesaling and retailing.

In our ifo Media Center a whole series of remarkable events are available and can be viewed in full length. We also record selected speeches and presentations given by employees or at events and make them available in our Media Center.

In 2021, the ifo Institute paved the way for several key future projects. We have compiled a selection of the highlights from the annual report for you on the following pages.

Economic forecasts estimate how the economy will develop in the future. They focus on speed changes and turning points in key macroeconomic variables. This information helps companies and private households to make decisions on their investment and spending plans. The government also uses economic forecasts to adjust its policy instruments.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the ifo Institute, VDMA Vice President Karl Haeusgen and ifo President Clemens Fuest unveiled a portrait of Ludwig Erhard, one of the founding fathers of the ifo Institute.

Thomas Fackler, economist at the ifo Center for Industrial Economics and New Technologies, together with his co-authors Markus Nagler, Martin Watzinger, and Monika Schnitzer, received the 2021 AEJ Policy Best Paper Award for the paper "How Antitrust Enforcement Can Spur Innovation: Bell Labs and the 1956 Consent Decree."

Research at the ifo Institute is organized in nine Centers, the Research Group Taxation and Fiscal Policy and the ifo Dresden Branch. All units have their own positioning, follow their characteristic program and offer specific services. At the same time, they are closely linked and all contribute to the shared research theme of the ifo Institute.

Survey Series

From 1983 to 2019, the World Economic Survey (WES) asked more than 1,000 economic experts worldwide every quarter to provide a picture of the current economic situation and indications of future developments in more than 100 important industrial, emerging and developing countries.

Publication Series

The ifo Working Papers, initiated in 2005, contain discussion contributions, mostly in English, from the current research of the ifo Institute and the Center for Economic Studies. They present research results for suggestions and further revisions before they are submitted to refereed journals. 

All submissions are subject to the approval of the Review Board. The working papers are available as PDF files.

Publication Series

ifo Konjunkturperspektiven is a monthly German-language online publication that presents the latest results from ifo’s business surveys in the form of graphics and tables. The surveys cover manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, and the service sector as a whole, as well as the industries related to each of those sectors.
