Ifo Dresden is particularly closely association with Michael Berlemann, since he was its managing director from 2004 to 2007. At this time he also successfully completed his Habilitation which led to a call to the Helmut Schmidt University of the Armed Forces (HSU) in Hamburg.
Michael Berlemann retains close ties to Ifo Dresden, which has found expressed in a number of joint activities. For example, the workshops he initiated on Macroeconomics and Economic Activity were also conducted in 2007 and 2008 at Ifo Dresden in collaboration with HSU. Michael Berlemann regularly published his research results in ifo Dresden berichtet.
