In an article in ifo Schnelldienst, Ifo researchers Klaus Abberger and Wolfgang Nierhaus discuss the technical advantages and characteristics of the Ifo Business-Cycle Clock. “The timely release of the Ifo Business-Cycle Clock is one of its greatest advantages”, Abberger and Nierhaus explain. It is also not subject to revisions and sends out clear signals without any significant distortions. A seasonal adjustment is also not employed. The Ifo Business-Cycle Clock is an important and reliable monitor for the depiction and assessment of current developments in economic activity, according to Abberger and Nierhaus. Already the November position shows that the German economy is in recession.
