The prizes are awarded by Dr. Ferdinand Graf von Ballestrem, chairperson of the Friends of the Ifo Institute, Prof. Dr. Karlhans Sauernheimer, deputy chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Council , and Hans-Werner Sinn, President of the Ifo Institute.
Prize for Academic Research Awarded by the Friends of the Ifo Institute
As recognition and incentive for high-quality research, the Friends of the Ifo Institute society award an annual prize for academic research. The requirement is publication in a scholarly journal with a peer review process.
In 2003 the prize goes to:
Dr. Robert Fenge and Dr. Volker Meier for the contribution "Why Cities Should Not Be Subsidized" in: Journal of Urban Economics, vol. 52, 2002, p. 433-447. see CESifo Working Paper No. 546 (2001)
Prize for outstanding success in the management of contract studies
The prize is given for work on a major research contract
In 2003 the prize goes to
Dr. Martin Werding and Dr. Robert Fenge for the management of two contract studies:
"Alterssicherungssysteme im internationalen Vergleich: Finanzierung, Leistungen, Besteuerung" (Old-age provision Around the World: Revenues, Benefits, and Taxation, project page with publications). Awards were also given to the other members of the team: Andrea Gebauer, Christian Holzner and Dr. Volker Meier.
"Old-age provision in ageing societies: equity, efficiency, and sustainability" (Alterssicherung in alternden Gesellschaften, project page with publications). An award was also given to the other member of the team: Silke Übelmesser.
Dr. Johann Wackerbauer for the project: "Emissionshandel mit Treibhausgasen in der Europäischen Union" (Emission Trading with Greenhouse Gases in the European Union, Project page with publications).
Heinz Schmalholz for the project: "Analyse der außenwirtschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Ungarn und Sachsen/Ostdeutschland - Kooperationspotenziale im Bereich der Informations- und Kommunikationswirtschaft (Teil II)" (Analysis of the Trade Relations between Hungary and Saxony/Eastern Germany - Co-operation Potential of Enterprises of Information and Communication Technologies (Part II), Project page with publications).
