What are the conditions needed to make the EMU a lasting success? Which type of economic governance do we need? Will Europe move towards a transfer union because the GIPS countries will not be able to stand on their own feet? How credible is the strategy of exiting the bailout operations? Must the ECB be redefined? These will be the main topics addressed by the first panel. The second panel will discuss the chances for and limits to European climate policy and will raise the question of whether Europe needs a centrally coordinated energy policy.

The Ifo-CoR BrIEF, an annual conference series, is co-organised by the European Union’s Committee of the Regions and the Munich-based Ifo Institute. The series aims at strengthening the contribution of Europe's economic expertise to European economic policy-making and providing a platform for prominent decision-makers in European politics to meet with renowned economists and discuss core questions pertaining to Europe’s future.
