Friday, 25 April 2008, Munich Residenz, Max-Joseph-Saal
Hans-Werner Sinn turned 60 on March 7 this year. Since July 1984 he has been full professor on the Economics Faculty of the University of Munich (LMU). Nine years ago he accepted a call to be president of the Ifo Institute. With the co-operation between the University and the Ifo Institute he has helped make Munich an international centre of discussion for economics and economic policy.
For his sixtieth birthday, the LMU Economics Faculty and the Ifo Institute hosted an international conference devoted to current economic-policy issues. Under the topic “Economic Policy in the Presence of Globalisation”, prominent economists, including Nobel laureates James J. Heckman and Sir James A. Mirrlees, discussed the economic challenges in the areas: welfare state, tax competition, European integration, climate change and education.
