Hans-Werner Sinn
Germany is allegedly the world champion exporter and the laggard in European economic growth. The country is struggling with increasing mass unemployment and watches in bewilderment as industrial jobs are continuously shifted to low-wage countries. The fear of the population contrasts clearly with official affirmations that Germany is competitive in light of its export successes and that the problem is only one of weak domestic demand. This study is an attempt to shed empirical light into apparently contradictory developments and to provide an economic explanation for these trends
