The monthly Ifo Business Tendency Survey is based on ca. 7,000 monthly survey responses of firms in manufacturing, construction, wholesaling and retailing. The firms in manufacturing are asked to give their expectations about the export volume for the next three months. They can characterise their expectations for the next three months as “increase”, “unchanged” or “decrease”. The balance value of the expectations is the difference of the percentages of the responses “increase” and “decrease”.
