With its business surveys the Ifo Institute collects data that are of great interest for empirical economic research both in Germany and abroad. The Ifo Institute makes this data available to external researchers under specific security precautions.
For researchers, undergraduate and doctoral students to have an optimal data access for their empirical work, the Ifo Institute has created a collection of key micro and macro data in its intranet. The collection includes primarily data obtained from the Ifo surveys but also data collected by other institutions that is valuable for empirical economic research.
This data pool is also available to guest researchers at the Ifo Institute. The use of the Ifo micro data is subject to strict security precautions to ensure the anonymity of the survey data (Protection of the survey data for scientific use).
The use of Ifo data in economic research was examined in 2007 (Abberger, Klaus, Sascha O. Becker, Barbara Hofmann and Klaus Wohlrabe, "Mikrodaten im ifo Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung: Bestand, Verwendung, Zugang", Ifo Working Paper Nr. 44, 2007, Abstract / Download). A selection of scholarly publications using Ifo survey data is presented in the literature list: Scientific Publications using Ifo Data
The data pool, which is continuously being enlarged, currently contains the following collections:
