Dresden, 31 July 2003
At its annual meeting on 24 June 2003, the Ifo Institute presented its latest economic forecast for Germany (Ifo Economic Forecast of 24 June 2003). Because of the government’s decision to advance the third stage of the 2000 tax reform by one year, the agreement of the ruling coalition and the opposition on a reform of the health service, and the meanwhile available draft of the federal budget for 2004, a revision of the original forecast became necessary. The analysis presented here takes account of the changed fiscal policy environment and the latest results of the Ifo business survey. It also includes the latest developments in the east German economy.
