The Ifo Business Climate Index for trade and industry in Western Germany improved again in April. By contrast, the climate indicators for the Eastern German Länder overall and Saxony fell sharply. This can mainly be attributed to the expectations of Saxon survey participants with regard to their business outlook, which they assess as unfavourable on the whole. There was some deterioration in their good business situation in April.
