Munich is a popular meeting place for economists from all over the world. Since the establishment of the CES, more than four hundred economists have participated in the programme. The CESifo Researcher Network arose from this programme.
With CESifo, the visiting researcher programme has been considerably expanded. Now visiting researchers have the opportunity to interact with both members of the LMU faculty of economics and to hold lectures at CES and also to establish contacts with the empirically based research departments of the Ifo Institute. At Ifo the visiting researchers can also access the infrastructure, in particular the extensive data of a major economics research institute (Ifo Datapool ).
I've really appreciated the generous hospitality, splendid facilities and accommodation, and impressive organisation of the guest programme at CESifo. Members of the Social Policy and Labour Markets group were very friendly and welcoming and fine lunchtime dining companions. Special thanks to Christian Holzner for working until 10pm to await my arrival and to Katja Gramann for fixing the office window I almost destroyed. Helmut Rainer is an exceptional and attentive host and I'm delighted with the progress we have made on our joint paper. I'm also pleased to have brought some fine Scottish weather with me for the Bewohner of Munich to enjoy. Ian Smith August 2010
Two weeks gone already? Much too fast. Would anyone mind if I quietly stayed here forever? I can't imagine a better place to take stock, learn and write - leaving, unfortunately, no excuses for failing to come up with great work. I'm not sure which is the more impressive: the efficiency and commitment of all at CESifo, or their friendliness. But I shall certainly remember both. All my thanks, and my highest regards, Mick Michael Keen July 2010
This has been a great visit. I have learned and met some fantastic people for a lifetime. My research will be greatly enhanced because of my time here. You have all been so nice. This place is a well-run machine and I can't express my gratitude enough. Thank you. Gary Hoover Uni Alabama, 15 July 2010
Juni 2010
I visited the CESifo institute in June 2010 and tremendously enjoyed the inspiring discussions with the researchers here on a wide range of topics, from location choice, redundancy pay, hold-up problems, trust and competition, and much, much more. CESifo is really a stimulating place. Thank you very much for the opportunity to visit CESifo under such splendid circumstances. Oliver Kirchkamp Uni Jena, 11.06.2010
I have spent a wonderful and exciting time in the Ifo Institute. This month has gone very quickly and has been full of stimulating discussions from which surely there is scope for further collaboration. Many thanks for this opportunity. Many thanks also to the administrative staff and in particular Katja Gramann. I hope to be back! April 30th 2010 Carlos Carrillo-Tudela
I have always been impressed by Ifo's contribution to Economics in terms of both the depth and the range of the work done, but also in terms of the very active engagement with policy issues. So it was great to experience this charged intellectual atmosphere at first hand through active engagement on two current areas of interest - competition policy and household economics. But I greatly enjoyed the warmth and friendliness of the colleagues and the superb administrative arrangements. Of course Munich and its surrounding areas are incredible places to visit - visually beatiful und culturally and gastronomically rich. Hope to be back. Besten Dank für die effiziente Organisation und dies sehr anregenden wissenschaftlichen Diskussionen. Hier ist man sehr gerne Gast! Michael Lechner 29. Januar 2010
Thank you very much for the opportunity to visit Ifo. My stay this week was a wonderful experience, very productive and a chance to meet and interact with many researchers. I would like to thank particularly Guido Schwerdt at the department of Human Capital and Innovation for his great hospitality and the very exciting discussions we had for a number of issues, which eventually will be the base of a number of projects to be carried out in future. Many thanks also to Katja Gramann for arranging all the details of my visit and all the people in the building for their hospitality during lunches and coffee breaks. With my best wishes, Konstantinos Tatsiramos IZA, Bonn November 29, 2009
I have been at CESifo since October 20th. It has been four very productive weeks. I had time for research, given seminars and participated in conferences. The office and the apartment offered good working and living conditions. Jogging along the Isar and in the English Garden was good exercise, and counteracted the effect of the tasty German beer. Special thanks to Thiess (hopefully our project will be a success) and to Katja and her colleagues for excellent help with practicalities. Lars-Erik Borge, Norwegian University of Science and Technology November 18, 2009
I have been a visiting fellow in many organisations but CESifo is clearly the best organisation and thought out - not just the simple things that can easily irritate such as accommodation, travel etc., but the core ones of research resources, interaction with colleagues, seminars and other opportunities for discussion. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and constructive. It has helped me complete two papers and develop co-authors for future efforts. I hope I will be allowed back so this relationship and its work can develop. I am most grateful to Dr Ochel for his suggestions I come and for what was organised.
