In this project in co-operation with the German Institute for Economic Research and the Institute for Economic Research of Lower Saxony it is the task of the Ifo institute to evaluate the methods for the calculation of the positive employment effects of environmental protection and develop proposals for the improvement of this methodological approach. For this purpose, this study discusses the conceptual questions with regard to the employment effects of environmental protection and the different methodological approaches for the determination of environmental protection-related employment effects and develops suggestions for the improvement of the methodology.
First the existing database was examined and updated. The most important studies and estimations in the relevant literature were reviewed. This includes estimations for new sections like climate protection, integrated environmental protection and environmentally-oriented services. In the second step, the project partners will actualise the numbers of the environment-related employment effects for the year 2006 on the basis of the methodological suggestions of the Ifo Institute.
