This update of the project from 2008 (Projections Regarding the Long-term Sustainability of Public Finances) incorporates newer data in the same framework to take into account recent developments in the economy as well as in the areas of demography and labour markets.
The subjects investigated are the expenses of the state old-age provision system (the statutory pension insurance fund and civil servants’ pension plan), government expenses for health (statutory health insurance and nursing insurance system), government expenses for the unemployed as well as the provisions for the coming generations (family benefits and education). Projections of the sustainability gaps of public finances in Germany have increased to some extent in comparison to the earlier project.
