The aim of this project is to evaluate the new promotion of economic development in Brandenburg. In a first step, the different federal funding used during the period of 2005 to 2009 are analysed. In the following step, the overall economic development of Brandenburg and its different economic branches is described and evaluated in more detail. The findings of these two steps are then used to formulate different advises for the future economic policy in Brandenburg.
To get an overview of the different federal funding used between 2005 and 2009, a collection of all supported projects in Brandenburg from the InvestitionsBank of Brandenburg is evaluated. In addition, the economic development of the branches of industry in Brandenburg and their strengths and weaknesses are described in a short report on each branch. The strengths and weaknesses result from expert interviews whereas the facts and figures about the economic development are based on official statistics.

The analyses show that the adjustment of the promotion of economic development in Brandenburg was a success - especially in terms of Brandenburgs economic power and its employment situation. The report also indicates, that improvements have to be made in fields of availability of skilled worker and the environment for further innovation and for establishing new industries. In contrast, the development of infrastructure and networking has been very successful since 2005 and only few fields of improvements are recognised. The differences in the development of the branches of industry are also shown. In order to find out very successful branches in Brandenburg, a comparison with the germanwide average is carried out.
