In this project for Cambridge Econometrics Ltd., the regional analysis and forecasts made by Cambridge Econometrics were tested and analysed for the eastern German NUTS-2 regions. This led to the identification of the stage of develop-ment of the new Länder as well as the outlook for the coming years. The economic profile and development outlook were also determined for the city regions of Dresden and Leipzig, which correspond to the Saxon government districts. Besides an analysis of general economic developments due to innovation activity, the focus here was on the determination of differences in infrastructure and real estate markets as well as demographic characteristics of the regions. The project builds on the work of previous years on “European Regional Prospects 2003”to“European Regional Prospects 2007”.
