In addition to the description of the basic findings of regional economics the study presents an inventory of the information and communication technology sector (ICT) in Saxony and Hungary. The analysis shows that both countries dispose of a relatively important ICT-Industry. However, measured by the volume of bilateral trade the business connections between both countries are not very developed in this area of goods and services.
This outcome was approved by a survey of industry and service enterprises of the ICT-sector in Saxony and Hungary. A central reason for the low level of trade and co-operation relationships is the fact, that in both countries the most capable enterprises of this sector are majority-owned subsidiaries of multinational groups, which are integrated in the respective production process of the group. The previously followed strategies of the enterprises determined that there are only sparsely direct relationships in ICT between Saxony and Hungary. The remaining enterprises of the ICT-sector work primarily with local know-how and capital. Most of them are small sized enterprises and are at present not yet capable to export.
In the present constellation the industry structure in the ICT-sector offers only a low potential for future growth of the bilateral relations in terms of trade and co-operation. Only after broadening and deepening the supply structures in Hungary and Saxony and an income of international competitive local of companies offer allow more possibilities for co-operation.
