“Euro-Zone Economic Outlook” is a publication produced in collaboration between the Ifo Institute in Munich, INSEE in Paris and Istat in Rome. The goal of the project is to produce estimations (for the previous quarter) and short-term forecasts (for current and the following quarter) for real GDP, consumption, industrial production and inflation in the euro-zone. The forecasts are distributed in the form of a two-page press release at 4:00 p.m. on the day that Eurostat publishes its second release of quarterly national accounts.
The estimations and forecasts are based on the exploitation of the information collected by the institutes from surveys of entrepreneurs and households. It incorporate econometric models and assessment techniques. In future, the three institutes intend to extend the publication progressively to other components of the demand side, such as private investment and trade exchanges.
