The Project Group 1 of the Study Commission has the task of dealing with the fundamental question of the importance of growth in the economy and society. As the basis and for the preparation of the study, the project group has commissioned an economic study that will present and summarise previous studies on "Growth and Productivity". Where these studies differ or have conflicting results, this will be documented. The time period will cover if possible the entire postwar era in Germany (former West Germany until 1990, from 1991 for united Germany). Where thematic possibilities exist, a comparison with other industrialised countries (eg USA, GBR, FRA, ITA) will be included in the analysis.
