Reduced growth in industrialised countries and a more global orientation of the production and purchasing processes have led to a consolidation linked with decreasing employment and value added and increasing imports. The study will measure the consequences of these processes on European and German enterprise in manufacturing – especially regarding growth and employment. In a second step potential causes of this development will be analysed, among them concentration and outsourcing or offshoring processes. Special attention will be placed on acquisitions and the consequences of a transfer of principal office of key players which might be called national champions, among them their consequences on the value chain.
