Despite global competition, innovation in established and young enterprises is spatially concentrated. The goal of this project is to determine modern location factors that influence the spatial distribution of innovation activity. Here, a key role is played by knowledge that is embodied in persons and that is not codified. Innovation does not occur in isolation. Links between the actors in the innovation process can thus lead to immobility of innovators. This immobility in combination with non-codified knowledge is a key explanation of the spatial distribution of innovations. This project incorporates the areas of education, innovation and regional economics.
