The task of this study was to calculate the direct and indirect economic impact of the Munich trade fairs with the help of input-output tables.
By using input-output tables, the direct and indirect production and income effects as well as the resulting tax revenue of the various authorities (City of Munich, Bavaria and Germany) were estimated. For calculating the direct and indirect effects, an estimation model was developed that was primarily based on the features of the visitors and exhibitors and individual expenditures (e.g. accommodation, stand construction).
Based on surveys conducted during the project among visitors and exhibitors and selected Munich trade fairs, the total volume of visitors and exhibitors for a typical trade fair year was determined.
