On November 19-20, 2010, the Department of International Institutional Comparisons of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research and CESifo Economic Studies organized a joint conference on Housing Taxation and Regulation, held in Munich. The purpose of the conference was to stimulate research concerning policies of the regulation of the supply of housing, by giving a preferential tax treatment to owner-occupied housing, and with means-tested social housing programs. The Department of International Institutional Comparisons of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research joint with the Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) of the Department of Economics at the University of Washington, the Center for the Study of Innovation and Productivity (CSIP) at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and the School of Law at the University of Washington are held a workshop in Seattle on regional institutions for innovation and productivity. The conference was intended to encourage further research in the area of local institutional determinants to enhance and foster productivity, and to stimulate interaction and co-operation in this field.
