In the last twenty years large-scale privatisation has taken place in a wide range of industries in EU member states, including energy, transport, network providers, banks and insurance companies, amongst others. It is time to review the success of these privatisation efforts both in terms of the efficiency of the privatisation procedure and the performance of the privatised enterprises. Although the emphasis is on EU states we are also interested in reports on other countries. We invite empirical studies from privatisation experts who draw on the experience of their own respective country over the last decades. We expect a thorough overview of the recent history of privatisation and well-founded economic judgements on the success and necessary policy corrections. The conference will be comprised of country reports with one expert per country presenting a paper to the conference. Please submit your extended abstracts (2 to 3 pages) before 19 July 2002, for selection by mid August. The final version of the papers is due by 30 November 2002. All accepted papers will be published in a conference volume with MIT Press. They may, in addition, be offered for publication to a policy-oriented academic journal, and preliminary versions will appear as CESifo Working Papers. CESifo will pay an honorarium for the published papers. Papers should be submitted to CESifo, Poschingerstrasse 5, 81679 Munich, Germany (office@CESifo.de). Please contact the conference organisers with any questions you may have. MIT Press volume editors and conference organisers |
