Call
for PapersRapid progress in information and communication technologies
stirs up modern economies as do the liberalisation and deregulation of traditional
network-based industries. These developments pose new challenges for economic
theory and economic policy. Thus, there is a growing body of both theoretical
and empirical literature focusing on these issues.
Once again, on 30 -
31 August 2004, we will dedicate a workshop to this important research topic.
This year's workshop will take place in Kloster Seeon (close to Munich) as a joint
initiative of the Center for Information and Network Economics at the University
of Munich and two of the leading German economic research institutes, the Ifo
Institute for Economic Research, and the Kiel Institute for World Economics.
With
this workshop we aim to provide a platform for presenting and discussing new research
in the area as well as contributing to the development of a coherent research
agenda. We would like to invite submissions concentrating on the following topics:
-Increasing
Returns, Network Externalities, Switching Costs. -Market Structure, Product
Differentiation and Pricing Strategies. -Industry Studies on Hardware/Software,
E-commerce and the Internet. -Industry Studies on Telecommunication, Energy
and Transport Networks. -Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Millennium. -National
and International Regulatory Policy, Antitrust Issues, Private Sector Initiatives.
We
particularly welcome empirical papers. For further reference have a look at
past programs which can be found at: htttp://www.uni-kiel.de/ifw/konfer/konferin.htm The
deadline for paper submissions is 15 June, 2004. Authors will be notified of the
acceptance of their paper by 5 July, 2004. Please do also let us know if you want
to participate without presenting a paper and if you would be willing to discuss
a paper. Thanks to generous financial support from the Volkswagen Foundation we
will cover the local costs and offer a partial reimbursement of travel costs for
all presenters and discussants. Submission of papers should be made via e-mail
