"Gefangen im Euro" ("Trapped in the Euro") by Hans-Werner Sinn

"Gefangen im Euro" ("Trapped in the Euro") by Hans-Werner Sinn

The financial markets have finally calmed down because Europe’s taxpayers have accepted liability for the investment risks in southern Europe. Yet the crisis in the real economy smoulders on due to the lack of any improvement in the competitiveness of southern European countries. With his usual clarity Ifo President Hans-Werner Sinn analyses the problems with the euro and proposes measures to overcome them. To save the European unification project, Sinn argues in favour of haircuts, temporary exits from the Eurozone, new rules for the European Central Bank and the set-up of a European Confederation based on the model of Switzerland. read on "Gefangen im Euro" ("Trapped in the Euro") by Hans-Werner Sinn

In their book “Endangering Prosperity – A Global View of the American School” Ifo researcher Ludger Wößmann together with Ifo research professor Eric Hanushek of Stanford University and Paul Peterson of Harvard University, show that poor levels of educational achievement endanger future prosperity. They analyse the disappointing performance of most US federal states by international comparison. Based on this analysis, they show the enormous potential for the US economy that lies in improving educational achievement in the US school system. read on Endangering Prosperity: A Global View of the American School by Eric A. "Die Target-Falle" ("The Target Trap") by Hans-Werner Sinn

"Die Target-Falle" ("The Target Trap") by Hans-Werner Sinn

In January 2002 freshly minted euro notes were distributed, amidst high hopes, among the members of the newly created Eurozone. Today, just ten years later, the euro project is in the throes of a major crisis. What began as a European peace project has led to dispute and discontent that can only be held in check by heavy borrowing from the savings accounts of citizens of the Eurozone’s core countries. read on "Die Target-Falle" ("The Target Trap") by Hans-Werner Sinn

"The Green Paradox. A Supply-Side Approach to Global Warming" by Hans-Werner Sinn

"The Green Paradox. A Supply-Side Approach to Global Warming" by Hans-Werner Sinn

The Earth is getting warmer. Yet, as Hans-Werner Sinn points out in this provocative book, the dominant policy approach - which aims to curb consumption of fossil energy - has been ineffective. In The Green Paradox, Sinn proposes a new, more pragmatic approach based not on regulating the demand for fossil fuels but on controlling the supply. read on "The Green Paradox. "Kasino-Kapitalismus. Wie es zur Finanzkrise kam, und was jetzt zu tun ist" by Hans-Werner Sinn

(Casino Capitalism. How the financial crisis came about and what needs to be done)
Hans-Werner Sinn on lemons, old cars and Lehman certificates
The American banking system is in ruins. Germany’s banks are limping along. In Eastern Europe a time bomb is ticking. Whole countries are about to go bankrupt. Hans-Werner Sinn explains in his book how the financial system became a playing field for gamblers and analyses the reasons for the crisis: the failure of the rating agencies, the regulating officials, the banks and not least American real-estate policies. He also presents a master plan for rebuilding the financial market. read on "Kasino-Kapitalismus. Wie es zur Finanzkrise kam, und was jetzt zu tun ist" by Hans-Werner Sinn
