German Exporters’ Optimism Continues to Grow
Mar 29, 2017
German exporters are slightly more optimistic than last month. The Ifo Export Expectations rose from 14.5 balance points in February to 14.7 balance points in March. German exporters remain unconcerned by political uncertainty worldwide. They are also benefiting from the favourable current economic situation in their sales markets.
Manufacturers of data processing machinery and electronic goods expect a significant upswing. Companies in the metals branch also reported a slight improvement in their business outlook, after expressing little optimism in recent months. Despite slight downward revisions, mechanical and electrical engineering firms still reported a very good export outlook.

The Ifo Export Expectations are based on around 2,700 monthly reports from manufacturers. Companies are asked to report their export expectations for the next three months. They can describe their expectations as "increasing", "unchanged" or "declining". The balance value of their projections is the difference in the percentages of "increasing" and "declining" responses.
