New Economic and Business Data Centre

The University of Munich (LMU) and the Ifo Institute have established an Economics & Business Data Centre (EBDC), aimed at providing a new platform for empirical research in economics. Physically located at the Ifo Institute and with Ifo’s time series and microdata at its core, the data centre will make available a structured, continuously updated dataset on German companies combined with data from various sources in such areas as economics, business financing, investment activities and governance structures. This will make it possible for researchers to explore new fields in both economics and business.

The Data Centre will be and make its data available to visiting researchers and will hold conferences focused on research based on business data. “The Ifo data is a treasure trove for economics research that has hardly been exploited”, says Hans-Werner Sinn, president of the Ifo Institute. He is confident that the new centre will correct that.

The EBCD is headed by Prof. Ralf Elsas, LMU, und Prof. Thiess Buettner, LMU and head of the Public Finance department at the Ifo Institute.
